Beachfront Soccer

Today was an incredible afternoon in Oman; a day full of unexpected conversations and excitement for the days to come.  We spent the afternoon observing a soccer match out on a field on the beachfront. We had the privilege of getting to talk to one of the players named Khalid who unfortunately was sitting out due to a hamstring injury. We got to talk all about his team (Al Noor) and the influence of soccer on Omani culture. Nick even got invited to join them for a pick-up game tomorrow afternoon followed by some post game coffee. We’re excited not only to get to play some soccer but to also build more of a relationship with Khalid and some of the other players.

Another group arrived last night from the states and will be exploring and learning about the country of Oman for the next few weeks.  After a long flight they were able to get a good night’s sleep and our now out doing a mini “Amazing Race” adventure around the city.  Keep checking back as travelers will start posting blog updates, photos, and video of their adventures daily.

Traditional Buildings and Upcoming Travels

A few weeks ago we stumbled across this really cool exhibit at one of the malls in Jeddah.  In an effort to preserve the traditions and cultures men from around the country came and showed people traditional ways and styles of building homes.  People were able to work alongside them making bricks, windows, and roofs.  Check out the video…

In the coming week, college students from the USA will be participating in a culture education adventure through Oman.  During their travels, they will be adding posts and pictures to this blog regularly.  Check back throughout the week to see what all they are up to and hear about their experiences.
